Al and Bev Czajka

Member of the Year

The following members have been nominated by their peers as Great Lakes HRC's most valuable member this year. This award is named after Al and Bev Czajka who both were long-time members of GLHRC, even long after they had stopped running dogs in hunt tests. Al and Bev worked tirelessly for the club at our events, put on several fun hunts on their personal property each year, and were very active members.

This award honors the member who best exemplifies the commitment and dedication for which Al and Bev were so well known. Each year, at our Annual Awards Banquet, members may nominate others for the award. People may be nominated for their contributions to dog sports in general, for work they do for the club, for their presence and time dedicated to HRC, or for any other way they might make Great Lakes HRC a better place to be!

Please read the nominations below. These are listed as they were written ont eh nomination forms collected at the banquet. Final voting will occur on Saturday morning at the Spring Hunt Test and the award will be given at the banquet Saturday evening. Thank you to all of these members for their hard work and dedication!

Tim Doane

"Tim has a GRHRCH as well as many other dogs he is training. He is always willing to help anyone with training or dog questions."

"Hunt Chair, Vice President, plus he has the first GRHRCH dog for GLHRC."

"For his commitment to the club and his professionalism at all times when representing the club."

Wendy MacKellar

"For all her contributions to HRC as a veterinarian - serving as hunt test veterinarian at both regular hunt tests and at the Grand when it was here, as well as serving as an active board member, and for her generous advice and help to any member who has a veterinary problem or question!"

"Wendy does many things with the club, but the help she gave my brother-in-law when his dog was sick was unbelievable! The dog eventually died, but she helped Bonnie through the night and during surgery on their pup!"

Ben Petroelje

"Ben has been a willing volunteer for any task asked of him. He has undertaken hunt test chairman, has planned and conducted several fun hunts, and is always willing to advise, help, or train with new members. On top of that, he is a great ambassador for our club as he and Shelby represent us well, performing admirably at hunt tests all over the midwest!"

John McKellop

"John has been around the club for some time, has held fun hunts, and has contributed to the development of many new members. John represents all that is good with HRC. He is one of the main reasons that I joined this club years ago!"

Sarah Shull

"Sarah has actively participated in multiple levels of UKC as well as AKC retriever training and testing this past year and years previous. She has actively promoted the values of the hunting retriever and also our club, GLHRC, through multiple publications. Some of those articles were included this year in the Grand Rapids Press, Gun Dog Magazine, ect. Sarah has a welcoming attitude to new and long standing members alike and I think is worthy of the title "Member of the Year." "

Chad Miller

"Chad is the glue that keeps the club together. He takes charge, is a positive person, and puts in a lot of his own time to make things run smoothly. He is the most valuable member of the club in my opinion and deserves recognition."
