The Great Lakes Challenge Cup

This is the fifth annual Challenge.  The Challenge is a club event intended to be fun, competitive, and a little different from what we do most of the time.  Unlike most of what we do in HRC, on this day, dog/handler teams will compete against one another to earn the title of Top Dog in GLHRC!  Set up and scoring will be "similar" to what you may have seen on the Super Retriever Series on television.

NOTE: This event is intended to be competitive, but fun!  Handlers will keep perspective and remember that this is a club social event, not a Super Retriever Series qualifier!

Challenge Cup Specifics

bullet

The day will consist of two tests.  One water, One land.

bullet

Distances or difficulties of the test elements will exceed what is legal in Finished testing.
bullet

Example: Quad marks, extended distances, multiple birds in the air at a time, poison birds, etc.

bullet

Each test will also include a "Challenge Event."  This will be a single feat the dog must accomplish or be assessed a 10 point penalty.  The Event will be unique to the situation, but may include such descriptions as "dog must past between these two trees on way to right hand mark," or "dog must enter the water on that mark," or "dog must pick pick up the shortest mark last."  Since there is no "pass" or "fail" in this competition, not performing the "Event" is at the discretion of the handler depending on each team's strategy, but will cost the team a penalty.

Rules and Scoring

Unlike the SRS, we will not be assessing "Major Faults" for a 5 point penalty.  Our goal is to eliminate the need for "judgement" and simply "keep score."  You will be scored based on how quickly and efficiently you pick up the birds.  Points will accumulate as follows:

Any whistle blown                                          = 2 points
Note: In this scoring system, casts given without a whistle incur no penalty.
Failure to complete the "Special Event"           = 10 points

Failure to pick up any individual bird               = 20 points

Tiebreaker:  In the event of a tie in points, the dog who completes the test in the least time will be declared the winner.

Junior Challenge Event

bullet

This event will be designed for those dogs that don't feel ready to take on the big tests, but still want to compete.

bullet

Event will consist of three single marks run from the same line.

bullet

Time will be kept and the dog that picks up all three marks in the least elapsed time will be declared the winner.

bullet

Handlers may restrain dogs at the line and will not be required to fire a gun.

bullet

Handlers may signal for each bird as soon as they are ready to be most time efficient.  Handlers may not signal for a bird before their dog picks up the previous bird.

bullet

Marks must be run as singles.  Handling is permitted, but will count against time.

bullet

Time will accumulate from the launch of bird #1 to the delivery of bird #3.

Super Singles Event

bullet

One, single mark - 100 yards
    - Mark will fall in low/no cover and will be clearly visible from
line.

bullet

Dogs will be timed on round trip.

bullet

Clock begins when dog passes through the "gate".

bullet

Clock stops when dog passes back through "gate" with bumper.

bullet

Delivery, style, bird handling, butterfingers handler, etc. will not be judged.

bullet

"SPEED WINS!"
